CUMBRIA SENIOR MERITS HELD AT HEVERSHAM B. C.
Robin, our Club Chair writes:-
Our club was both pleased and proud to be asked to host one of the Men’s Merits Final on Sunday 27th April. The other Men’s Final was being held at Burneside B. C. and the Women’s at Burneside.
The club provided the facilities to allow many of the area’s top bowlers to compete for a place in the National Finals later in the year. The day began cool and cloudy as the first of the 26 bowlers led off. As expected there was excellent bowling all through the day with established and experienced men including Martin Gilpin, Paul Kissock and Danny Rogers taking part. The Heversham Side of the draw produced a Netherfield player, Martin Gilpin, so the semi finals and final had to be played at our green.
When the players and supporters from Burneside arrived, the competition produced excellent quarter and semi final matches with Gilpin, 15, losing out to Danny Rogers, and Adam Miller, 10, losing to Matty Stewart in the semis.
The stage was set for a potential close final, however, Matty Stewart proved too good for Danny, who had played some great bowls all day, losing 21 – 10.
Well done to both bowlers who progress to the National Final in July.
Heversham Bowling Club was praised for the hospitality and smooth running of the days event, providing scorers, support to the referees with measuring, great food and overall facilities. One of the referees was our very own Charles Ellis.
Overall it was a brilliant day for our club, thank you to everyone who supported in many ways. We should be very proud and comfortable going forward in organising and running more of these events.

No good bowling without good food?

No good match without good helpers? . . . And lots of tea and coffee by the looks of it!
