Blue Bell Trophy

Blue Bell Trophy

On Sunday 2nd June sixteen club members took part in the competition for the Blue Bell Trophy. The competition is a straightforward knockout with opponents chosen by a random draw. It was played on a lovely afternoon with just enough breeze to stop the weather becoming too hot. Sixteen participants meant that there were four rounds in total. The afternoon saw some great bowling. The finalists were Mike Warwick and Martin Tomlinson. Congratulations to Martin who won the trophy for the second year in succession. Thanks to Vera, our Club Captain, for organising the event which ran so smoothly.
Below you can see Martin receiving the trophy from Vera and Mike with his prize for runner-up.

Coronation Anniversary Round Robin

CORONATION
ANNIVERSARY
ROUND
ROBIN

On Sunday 5th May the second Round Robin of the season took place. This time the Round Robin was held to mark the anniversary of the Coronation of King Charles III. Fourteen members took part on a pleasantly warm afternoon with refreshments part way through. Congratulations to the winners Susan and Charles Ellis. Two couples had equal results for second place with equal wins and aggregate scores: Julie and Martin, and Louise and Robin, were tied on 10 points for wins and 18 points on aggregate. Second place was therefore decided by a sudden death play off which was won by Julie and Martin. This time there was a booby prize – names won’t be mentioned but you might be able to guess who won it when you see the photos below. Thanks again to John Smith who organised the event and to all who provided refreshments and helped.

On the left below you can see Susan and Charles receiving their prizes from Robin Wharfe, the Club Chair; and on the right Julie and Martin are receiving their prizes.

Bowls Big Weekend 2024

The club supported the Big Bowls Weekend on Sunday 26th May with 10 members braving the inclement weather to enjoy a afternoons social bowling.

Two potential new members joined in and were introduced to the game and coached by Colin and Tom. Both appeared comfortable on the green and looked ‘natural’ with the bowls.

The rain continued so everyone retired to the clubhouse for tea and cake.

Thanks to those who endured the weather and to supplying the, as usual, tasty fare.

Domino Evening

DOMINO EVENING

On Saturday March 16th the club held a domino evening in the Athenaeum. It was a good social occasion with people moving from table to table as they won points. Thanks to Colin who kept everyone in order, well at least he tried to do, and to all who prepared the evening and who worked in the background. Robin, our Club Chair, writes, “Really well done everyone. We made a profit of £289.50 – a great effort. Looking forward to arranging another fund raiser.”

The Heversham Navvies

The Heversham Navvies

Several club members picked up shovels, spades, and rakes to help clear the club car park for a new surface of stone to be laid. Once cleared, a 10 tonne delivery of limestone chippings was spread across the car park by the club ‘Navvies’. Club Chair, Robin commented, “Two days of hard work will hopefully pay off and keep the car park in good condition for the foreseeable future, well done to all those who took part.

Robin adds, “Once again thanks to the club members who turned out in appalling conditions to finish laying another 5 tonnes of stone in the car park. Also well done to those who came down to the clubhouse for the Annual Spring Clean, Boon Day! Looking good for the new season.”
