June Round Robin

June Round Robin

Robin, our Club Chair writes: ‘On Sunday 29th June, 8 couples competed in June’s Round Robin in mild sunny conditions.

John Smith ensured the day ran to the clock.

As usual the mix of players meant no one could predict the outcome. As tea was taken, the unbeaten team of Tom and Sue began the afternoon as favourites. The competition was good but their winning streak continued and they finished the day as worthy winners with maximum points.

Runners up were Charles and Ali with 9 points (+11 aggregate) beating Louise and Steve, also with 9 points (-6 aggregate)

The booby prize winners were Colin and Hiliary who unfortunately failed to win a game, but were still smiling at the end.

Thanks as usual to Vera and John for organising the day.’

At 1.30pm, as the Round Robin began, John Smith, who’d organised the contest, predicted that there would be a break for tea at 3.10pm. As you can see by the photo on the right his timing was once again perfectly accurate. Who needs a clock when John Smith is around?

Blue Bell Trophy 2025

Blue Bell Trophy 2025

On Sunday 8th June, which should have felt like a summer’s day but which felt more like late autumn, fourteen members took part in the annual competition for the Blue Bell Trophy. The semi-finalists were Louise Tomlinson v. Mike Warwick, and Martin Tomlinson v. John Smith. Louise and Martin went through to the final, making it a husband and wife contest. Despite threats of having no dinner that evening, or worse still having his dinner poured over him, Martin went on to win the Blue Bell Trophy for the third year in succession. Many thanks to our Club Captain, Vera Alderson, on the smooth running of the competition.

Below on the left you can see the semi-finalists Louise and Mike, and on the right are John and Martin.

On the left below are Martin and Louise, still trying to look as if they’re friends, and on the right is Louise receiving the prize as runner-up from Club Captain Vera Alderson.

Congratulations to Martin on winning the Trophy for the third year in succession.

Come and Try Day 2025

Come and Try Day

On Sunday 18th May, the club held it’s Come and Try Day as part of our Social Bowling afternoon.

18 club members enjoyed a lovely sunny afternoons bowling and were joined by 4 potential new bowlers.

Club coach, Colin James, took them under his experienced guidance, showing them the basic skills of our game, and taking them onto the green to put their early knowledge into practice.

After some interesting ends, producing varying degrees of success, it was time for a well deserved drink and, of course, a piece of cake.

The day was enjoyed by those who joined us, and here’s hoping we may get some new members to join our club.
